Cause of incident:  Accidental – Two adults were working on a custom car in the garage. They had been working on the engine, started the car and then shut it off. When they shut it off, a fire started in the engine compartment. They tried putting the fire out using a garden hose, but were not successful.

General information about the incident:  The family of three will be staying with relatives who live close by. This is the second garage fire in two days where the occupants were working on vehicles in the garage. Yesterday a man suffered first and second degree burns after a flash fire in the garage.  everal motorcycles he had in the garage were damaged, two were destroyed. One was a collector’s motorcycle worth more than $100,000. The garage sustained approximately $5,000 damage. The man was expected to be treated and released from the hospital because of his burns.

In both cases, if an all purpose fire extinguisher had been available and used properly they probably would have been able to put the fire out quickly and save their properties and possibly the vehicles they were working on.
