General information about the incident:  Fire dispatchers received numerous calls that the roof of a house was on fire. Roof area was fully involved and starting to cave into the interior of the house when firefighters arrived on scene. Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the one home. Neighbors told fire investigators that an elderly man was seen watering trees and feeding cats there from time to time and occasionally a light was on inside the house. But after checking the house twice, firefighters could not find anyone inside the house. Fire investigators believe that occasionally someone might have checked on or visited the house, but it did not appear anyone was living in the house. The cause of the fire is undetermined. At 11:57 p.m. Monday, a palm tree was on fire nearby at the intersection of South Seventh Street and Clark Avenue. Fire investigators could not rule out the possibility that an ember from the previous tree fire fell on the wood roof and caught fire. There were no reported injuries.
