City Officials To Celebrate Grand Opening Of Decatur Pines Senior Apartments
New Ward 6 Complex Features Affordable Apartment Homes For Low-Income Seniors

The management and residents of the new Decatur Pines Senior Apartments at 6741 N. Decatur Blvd. will welcome invited guests, dignitaries and news media for a grand opening, tours and refreshments on Tuesday, July 6, at 11 a.m. Mayor Oscar B. Goodman and Ward 6 Councilman Steven D. Ross are among those expected to speak at the opening.

The newly constructed rental complex was developed by Nevada H.A.N.D., Inc., a non-profit corporation whose mission is to improve the lives of low-income individuals by providing affordable housing solutions and supportive services. Built by HAND Construction Company, a board-controlled, nonprofit affiliate of Nevada H.A.N.D., the total cost was approximately $12,110,000. The city of Las Vegas provided $1,125,000 in federal grant funds for construction, with the remainder coming from the State of Nevada's low-income housing tax credit program.

"These apartments are another fine example of what can be accomplished when the community works together with a responsible developer to build quality, affordable, apartment homes for our senior citizens," Mayor Goodman said. "There is such a need in our community for attractive complexes like this one that those with lower incomes can afford."

The complex consists of 66 one-bedroom and nine two-bedroom apartment homes. Each apartment features a large bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, living room, covered patio or balcony, and other amenities. Management began leasing the units in February 2010.

"Our older residents with limited incomes need good, affordable places to live," Councilman Ross said. "It pleases me to be part of making it possible for our seniors to have attractive apartment homes like these, close to family, shopping and transportation."

The apartments offer amenities designed with seniors in mind, including covered parking, an elevator, small library and reading areas, game room with billiard table, computer room, lighted walking paths, outdoor barbecues, free laundry facilities on each floor and free transportation to scheduled activities. The community building offers a beauty salon, TV/movie theatre, exercise room, social hall, a large covered patio with picnic tables and benches, and outdoor pool and spa. A full-time resident services manager organizes activities and excursions for residents who wish to participate.

These apartments are available to lease to qualifying seniors. The head of household must be at least 55 years of age and each household member must be at least 45 years of age. Household income cannot exceed $26,300 annually for two people or $23,000 for one person. The monthly rental cost, which includes electricity, water and trash pickup, depends on income level. It ranges from $493 to $616 for a one-bedroom unit, and from $592 to $740 for a two-bedroom apartment.

Formed in 1993, Nevada H.A.N.D., Inc. currently owns and/or operates more than 2,600 housing units in 26 affordable communities. For leasing information on the Decatur Pines Senior Apartments, call (702) 658-3600. For more information on Nevada H.A.N.D., Inc., call (702) 410-2700.
